The Thermal Forming process

Once you've decided on your design and finish, the Trends Kitchens team can begin the process of manufacturing your tailor made doors.

First, your doors are cut out to specification on one of our routers, and any details from your design are cut into the surface.

Then your doors are sanded to a fine finish and placed on one of our specialized thermal press machines. Care is taken to minimize waste of all materials.

Next a sheet of coloured PVC is laid over your cut out doors. This material comes in a number of colours, styles and finishes to choose from. Then the magic happens...

In the press, heat and air pressure is applied to the PVC foil, pushing it down over the doors, and pulling it tight around the surface. The heat activates the adhesive on the PVC, bonding it to the door, and the pressure ensures a smooth and even finish, wrapping the PVC elegantly around the edges of the doors. Excess air is literally sucked through the doors by a strong vacuum and expelled out of the press.

The result is beautiful looking, perfectly formed kitchen doors, made to your personal design specifications - but there are still a few finishing touches yet to be made.

Each door is finished by hand, trimming any excess PVC from edges and checking that the surface is flawless. On the very rare occasion that an inaccuracy has occurred in the press, we'll make the door again to ensure the highest quality product for you.

Finally the door is fitted with any accessories you've chosen, like some of our wide range of handles or knobs, and assembled into your finished cabinetry. Our Thermal Formed doors are just one of the many unique in-house products we can offer to guarantee the perfect kitchen for you.
